The Road to the Charter of RC Wakiso
A dream is born.
Despite challenges, including meeting the required membership threshold of 20 – 25 members and disruptions caused by the COVID-19 pandemic, the determination of the pioneers remained unwavering.

The dream to establish the Rotary Club of Wakiso began in 2018 when Rtn. Godfrey Kisseka of the Rotary Club of Nansana recognized the need to extend Rotary services to the Wakiso area.
This idea was further supported by several Rotarians from RC Nansana including Rtn. Stephen Muwonge, Rtn. Alfred Bakyusa, and Rtn. Fred Mukasa who also resided in Wakiso. Together with Mr. Charlse Lubega and Mr. Francis Kawesa, planning meetings were initiated to build momentum for the formation of the new club.
By 2019, some members had started gathering at Gold City Pub in Wakiso town in preparation for the official launch. Despite challenges, including meeting the required membership threshold of 20 – 25 members and disruptions caused by the COVID-19 pandemic, the determination of the pioneers remained unwavering. Their efforts bore fruit when the Rotary Club of Wakiso was officially chartered on April 20th, 2020, shortly after the first COVID-19 lockdown was lifted in Uganda.

John Ssegawa, and Rtn. Prof. Peter Kiwumula, were inducted, bringing the total membership to 28. By September 2025, the membership had impressively grown to 60.
The Charter President, Rtn. Charlse Lubega, had previously served as President of the Rotaract Club of Gulu University, one of Uganda’s largest state universities. His prior Rotary leadership experience and familiarity with Rotary traditions enabled him to guide the new club effectively through its formative year, laying a strong foundation upon which the club continues to thrive today.
The club, which initially held its weekly fellowships at Gold City Pub, later moved to Flora Hotel and now meets every Thursday from 7:00 – 8:00 PM at Rock Stone Gardens, in Wakiso Town.
