Despite being located in an semi-urban district, many schools in the Mende community continue to experience water scarcity. To address this challenge, the Rotary Club of Wakiso adopted Mende as a focus area for the 2025/2026 Rotary year, prioritising WASH interventions in schools.
At St. Theresa Bbaka Primary School, the club installed a rainwater harvesting tank, a handwashing station, and a drinking water filtration system to promote hygiene and access to safe water. Similarly, at Bulondo Primary School, the club supported the installation of a drinking water filtration system, the renovation of two latrines, and a handwashing facility, ensuring that sanitation and hygiene standards are upheld.
These facilities are expected to benefit over 1,200 pupils across the two schools, helping to reduce water-related illnesses and improve educational outcomes. Several additional water projects are planned in the near future to further enhance sanitation and access to clean water across the district.
