RC Wakiso Launches District-Wide Road Safety Campaign

On 23rd July 2026, the Rotary Club of Wakiso had the honour of hosting District Governor Rtn. Gerald Obai, who officially launched a joint Road Safety Campaign in partnership with the Rotary Club of Kakiri and the Interact Club of St. Augustine Secondary School, Wakiso. Present was also the Asst. Governor Rtn. Elizabeth Luwugge,

The event commenced with a symbolic road safety walk from Kayunga, Wakiso to the Wakiso District Headquarters, demonstrating our collective commitment to making Uganda’s roads safer through awareness, education, and community action. The campaign culminated in a public road safety workshop attended by over 500 participants and graced by SP Michael Kananura, the Uganda Police Traffic Spokesperson, who shared valuable insights on responsible road use and accident prevention.

The day’s activities focused on raising public awareness, equipping road users with life-saving road safety knowledge, and advocating for responsible behaviour among motorists, cyclists, pedestrians, and other road users. The campaign reinforced the important message that road safety is everyone’s responsibility and that preventing road crashes requires the collective efforts of individuals, communities, and institutions alike.

This initiative marks the beginning of a year-long road safety campaign, which has been adopted as District Governor Gerald Obai’s Signature Project. Through continuous awareness activities, community engagement, and strategic partnerships, the campaign aims to promote safer road use and contribute to reducing the number of deaths and injuries caused by road traffic crashes across the district.

The Rotary Club of Wakiso extends its sincere appreciation to all partners who made the launch a success, including the Uganda Red Cross Society – Wakiso Branch, St. Joseph’s Hospital Wakiso, St. Augustine Secondary School Wakiso, Wakiso Traffic Police, Buganda Technical College, and all other stakeholders who joined hands with us in this important initiative. Together, we are taking meaningful steps towards safer roads and saving lives.
